Now is the time for those that feel Obama will fuck up “just as bad" as Bush to write down exactly what that means. Will it be the deficit? Will it be wars around the globe? A continued erosion of the Bill of Rights? Oh what, tapping phones isn’t cool when a Democrat is doing it? I thought you were shitting your pants in fear or terrorists calling for movie times or using Google Voice Search. What happened?
Come on folks, write this shit down. Put something down on paper, or at least the internets. Be specific. Show your work. No partial credit and no copying off Ann Coulter, because, you know…she’s never right about anything.
“Remember, a party predicated on the notion that government sucks and can’t do anything right can’t possibly run an administration that doesn’t suck and can do anything right. Competent conservative governance would instantly invalidate conservatism’s core tenets.”—Daily Kos: Building machines
“What’s new is something consultant and social technologist Clay Shirky calls “Coase’s Floor,” below which we find projects and activities that aren’t worth their organizational costs — things so esoteric, so frivolous, so nonsensical, or just so thoroughly unimportant that no organization, large or small, would ever bother with them. Things that you shake your head at when you see them and think, “That’s ridiculous.”—Schneier on Security: Here Comes Everybody Review
Eric Schmidt, GOOGLE’s chief executive vows: “From a technological perspective, it is the beginning.”
Hey! Hey, Google! I have the flu! Right now! Want to tell the gov’t or should I just IM them or something?
I noticed on news radio this moring that some official reporting showed that a percentage of workers gave, as their reason for not taking a flu shot, that their jobs were so bad that they would like to miss some work.
Putting aside this ridiculous approach to life, why would such a survey even be conducted and published? Are they trying to peer pressure people into taking flu shots or will this suddenly put companies in a position of enforcing mandatory flu shots?
1984 was just the title folks. It’s here.
A wee bit over the top, no? Have you looked at the raw data that is provided? Do you see names, e-mails, Google Account uids? No. In fact, all the raw data has is date, state and influenza-like illness (ILI) estimates. It’s aggregation of anonymized search results. Google has been doing it with other things, like politicians and celebrities for years.
That’s right, folks. You got all wound up for nothing. Again. There are real privacy concerns about Google. This isn’t one of them and reacting without knowing what is really happening doesn’t really help anybody. There may even be a parable about it or something…
