“My problem with Rush is not that he’s a bigot. Bigots are actually funny to me in the way that people who still wear parachute pants give me a chuckle. What bothers me about Rush’s ilk is that they don’t actually have the stones to be real racists or women haters or anti- Semites. Though they irresponsibly fan the flames of hatred, they don’t own the strength of their convictions. When they are called on their stuff they run back to their bunker, which is heavily fortified for a reason, crying “but it was only a joke!””—John Ridley: Rush Limbaugh Hates Mexicans (But in a Funny Way)!
“Nuclear power represents an important part of our current energy mix. Nuclear also represents 70% of our non-carbon generated electricity. It is unlikely that we can meet our aggressive climate goals if we eliminate nuclear power as an option. However, before an expansion of nuclear power is considered, key issues must be addressed, including security of nuclear fuel and waste, waste storage and proliferation. The nuclear waste disposal efforts at Yucca Mountain [in Nevada] have been an expensive failure and should be abandoned. I will work with the industry and governors to develop a way to store nuclear waste safely while we pursue long-term solutions.”—Barack Obama Answers 18 Questions for Nature
“Does everyone realize how much bigger a disaster last week would have been had Social Security been privatized ? Please, let us all remember that when the topic comes up again in the future.”—My Presidential Endorsement.. « blog maverick
Now, because we all love math so much, I submit to you that 2 > 0. You might need to use The Googles to verify that though.
I weep for the state of the op-ed. I know the Sun Times has a “reputation” to uphold, but that editorial was asinine. I mean, a ‘Hitler had adoring crowds too’ reference? Really? The theme that I took away from my reading was that if you aren’t shitting your pants in fear, you’re doing it wrong and if you elect Obama a terrorist will stick a suitcase nuke under your pillow because we ignored the warning signs that Hitler taught us about. Obama doesn’t wander around stage singing “Bomb Bomb Iran” so he isn’t serious! Never mind that McCain had to downplay that event and remind people how serious he was about Iran. Bomb Bomb Iran!
Nobody is denying that Iran is a problem. But with our recent history of “grave and gathering threats” I think it’s being serious to be god damn sure about it this time around. Simply saying that you’re willing to bomb something doesn’t make you serious and saying that you may not bomb first and ask questions later doesn’t make you less serious.
Maybe the Sun Times op-ed board should re-watch or re-read some Palin/McCain speeches and then lookup jingoism. Trust me, it’s a very serious word.
I should note that any use of the word ‘serious’ is meant to imply that when something is ‘serious’ it is beyond questioning. You don’t question things that are serious because they are so serious. If you attempt to question something that has been deemed serious by serious people, you are simply displaying your lack of seriousness.
